How to Spawn and Beat Albatross in How to Fish

Catch the Tuna that summons Albatross on Island 4, survive the terrorizing bird fight and keep the Albatross Head for progression.

Quick answer On Island 4, catch Tuna with the Professional Boss Lure, defeat it and place the Tuna body on the ground as bait. The Albatross—also called the terrorizing bird or giant bird—arrives from the air. Keep moving across open sightlines, shoot after its committed pass and preserve the Albatross Head for the next hand-in.

Why did Albatross leave?

If the fight HUD shows a second white bar beneath the health bar, read it as the encounter’s escape timer. Damage reduces the health bar; time drains the white bar. If that timer empties before the kill is recorded, the boss leaves or the encounter resets.

HUD signalWhat it meansResponse
Boss health remains, white bar is fallingThe fight is still active but the escape window is shrinkingKeep using safe damage windows instead of extending the kite indefinitely
Countdown appears near the endThe current attempt is about to expireCommit only to damage you can land without dying or losing control of the arena
Boss vanishes without a kill resultThe encounter ended; it was not a successful defeatCatch another Tuna and place its body again.
  • Buy ammunition, healing and upgrades before spending the boss trigger.
  • Use cover to create shots, not to run without dealing damage for the entire fight.
  • Keep the boss visible so a reset is not confused with a kill or progression bug.
No universal seconds publishedCurrent guides agree on the white-bar function, but Dazed Games has not published one duration that can safely be applied to every boss, difficulty, lobby and build.

How to spawn Albatross

Albatross does not use a normal lure directly. The fight is a two-stage chain on Island 4: first catch the Tuna, then use the Tuna body as the bird bait.

  1. Reach Island 4 and find the Professional Boss Lure. Finish the earlier Pufferfish hand-in before treating the bird as the active story gate.
  2. Use the lure to catch Tuna. Prepare for the Tuna fight before casting; the lure is part of the setup, not the final trigger.
  3. Defeat and pick up the Tuna. Do not sell, grill or leave the body behind.
  4. Place the Tuna on open ground. Current boss guides describe the body itself as the Albatross bait.
  5. Move away from the bait and watch the sky. Give yourself enough room to track the first approach instead of standing directly on the Tuna.
Spawn checkIf the bird does not appear, confirm you used the Tuna body from the Professional Boss Lure sequence and that the Island 4 quest is active. Catching an unrelated fish does not replace the trigger.

Albatross fight plan

The bird changes the usual ground-fight camera problem. Looking only at the bait or health bar makes the next aerial pass hard to read. Move into a clear area, track the Albatross through the full approach and fire after it commits rather than turning in circles underneath it.

  • Keep the bait area and the bird in the same broad field of view.
  • Strafe across the approach instead of running along its line.
  • Use a ranged weapon you can control while looking upward.
  • Reload after a pass, while the bird is opening distance—not when it is already diving.
  • Keep food and healing ready before placing the Tuna; the trigger removes your preparation window.

The official Steam achievement names this encounter “Terrorizing bird.” Current boss guides identify the creature as Albatross.

Solo and co-op roles

Solo

Choose visibility over cover that blocks the sky. Keep a repeatable lateral route and do not chase the Albatross to the island edge. The useful shot window comes after you understand its pass, not from standing under the spawn point and firing continuously.

Co-op

Split sightlines instead of stacking. One player can call the direction of the next approach while the others fire from separate angles. If the targeted player moves through the entire group, the same pass can disrupt every weapon and revive attempt.

After the kill, collect the Albatross Head before handling ordinary drops. Current progression tables also call it the bird head. Return the distinctive trophy to the Island 4 quest giver so the next coordinates and military/volcano route can advance.

If the next destination does not appear, check the hand-in first. Killing Albatross, unlocking the Terrorizing bird achievement and completing the campaign hand-in are related events, but the trophy delivery is the navigation gate.
