How to Unlock the Grill & Cook in How to Fish — Can You Uncook Weapons?

Unlock the Island 3 Grill, cook items to the 1.5x value point and decide what to do after accidentally cooking a weapon or fishing rod.

Quick answer Reach Island 3, use the Standard Boss Lure to catch the Blue Shark, defeat it and carry it to the Grill Master. Once the Grill starts, inspect an item while it cooks and remove it at 1.5x value. There is no documented uncook action, so do not cook a weapon or fishing rod you want to keep unchanged.

How to unlock the Grill

The Grill is tied to the Island 3 Blue Shark request and the official Grillmaster achievement, whose description is “Start the grill.” Current walkthrough evidence agrees on the following route:

  1. Reach Island 3. Complete the earlier quest and boss hand-ins before looking for the Grill Master.
  2. Buy the Standard Boss Lure. Current guide evidence lists it at $280 and treats the lure as consumed when used.
  3. Cast for the Blue Shark. Prepare a ranged weapon and healing before spending the lure.
  4. Defeat and keep the Blue Shark. Do not sell or cook the requested body on the way back.
  5. Carry it to the Grill Master. Completing the request starts the Grill and unlocks Grillmaster.

Sweet spot1.5x valueRemove the item immediately
Burnt / solid blackValue falls to 0Use only when deliberately pursuing the burnt-creature achievement

The inspection panel updates the value and cooking multiplier while the item is over the flame. The useful window is short: cooking past 1.5x does not keep adding value. Once the item is fully black, current guide evidence places its sale value at zero.

A safe cooking routine

  1. Clear space around the Grill. Move loose quest trophies and equipment away so the wrong object is not grabbed.
  2. Cook one item at a time. This keeps the inspection panel and the object you are watching aligned.
  3. Inspect immediately. Follow the live multiplier instead of counting seconds; item timing may change with handling and patches.
  4. Pull at 1.5x. Move the item completely away from the heat rather than holding it at the edge.
  5. Sell or store it deliberately. Do not mix a cooked sale item with a boss trophy needed for progression.

Should you cook weapons and fishing rods?

Community guides report that the Grill accepts guns and other sellable items, not only fish. That makes cooking a weapon tempting when you intend to sell it. The risk is cosmetic or state changes: players report that cooked guns can lose the visible look of a skin or camouflage.

Best ruleCook a weapon only when it is a sale item. Keep your equipped gun, favorite skin, fishing rod and every quest object away from the Grill.

The extra sale value is not worth changing the item you rely on for the next boss. If you need cash, cook ordinary catches first and keep a clean loadout on the boat.

Can you uncook a weapon or fishing rod?

Current answerNo supported in-game reversal is documented. “I accidentally cooked my fishing rod” is still on the August 25 Steam Discussions front page, but Patch 1.0.9 does not add an uncook control, cleaner or repair interaction.

Do not burn another item to test a theory. If a weapon or rod changed, remove it from the Grill and inspect the current inventory before deciding whether to save. Rebuying the same model may be a practical replacement when available, but it does not reverse the original item.

Common Grill mistakes

  • Cooking the Blue Shark before the Grill Master accepts it.
  • Waiting for a stronger visual effect after the multiplier reaches 1.5x.
  • Leaving several objects in the heat and losing track of which readout belongs to which item.
  • Cooking a boss trophy, favorite weapon or skinned gun that was never meant for sale.
  • Assuming a fully burnt item can be restored by cooking it again.
