How to Fish Rare Variants & Drip Creatures

Rare variants are part of every fish set

Dazed Games explicitly presents collecting the rare variant of every different fish as a core activity. That means rarity is not limited to one secret boss or one island. As the island pool changes, the collection target expands with it.

Dazed Games has not published an official percentage table for each variant. The community estimates below can help plan a hunt, but cannot promise when your next target will appear. When a catch looks visually distinct, avoid selling it immediately; check whether it advances a collection goal or has exceptional sale value.

Drip creatures are a separate target

The achievement list names two related but different goals:

Do not automatically label every rare fish as a drip creature. The separate achievement wording suggests different collection flags, and combining them would make a completion checklist misleading.

Once a catch is confirmed as a Drip creature, it also becomes the token for a Reel of Fortune weapon-skin spin. That cosmetic use is separate from the Collector and Fishipedia kill records.

How to catch Drip Goby and Drip Goldfish

Equip the Fishing Rod with Beginner Lure, available from Island 2. Keep and kill the wanted Drip, then check its Tab encyclopedia entry. Use the fish tracker to record the missing target.

Yue’s community estimates, dated September 5, use a separate 10% Drip roll after selecting an eligible creature. These are community figures, not official drop rates.

Is Drip Goby guaranteed after 114 hooks?

No. The mean is an average across repeated hunts, not a deadline or pity counter. The estimates count successful hook selections, before landing or killing, rather than casts or lures consumed. A longer dry streak is possible.

With independent attempts at the model’s unrounded Goby rate, about 37% of hunts would still miss after 114 hooks. Reel-and-release can shorten the time spent on unwanted catches; it has no established per-hook probability bonus.

Drip Parrotfish cooking on Patch 1.0.11

Dazed Games lists a direct fix for Drip Parrotfish not being cooked. On the current build, retest that exact creature after restarting Steam before using a launch-version workaround or assuming all Drip creatures share the same failure.

A low-waste collection loop

1. Finish the island’s quest access first. More islands mean more creature pools and better gear.
2. Catch several ordinary examples. Learn the normal model and color before judging a variant.
3. Preserve unusual catches. Check achievements, quest needs and value before selling or cooking.
4. Track the island and encounter type. A simple note is more useful than a guessed global spawn rate.
5. Return with better equipment. Collection runs are faster once travel and normal fights are no longer bottlenecks.

Drip Dripper: Professional Lure and long dry streaks

Use the Fishing Rod and Professional Lure for the normal Dripper pool at the Island 4 stage. A player reported at least 150 lures without a Drip Dripper. Allow for long dry streaks; no official drop rate or guaranteed catch count is published.

Players describe sprint fishing and reel-and-release to cycle unwanted catches more quickly. The aim is more attempts in less time, with no established increase in per-catch Drip odds. Keep and kill the target, then check its Tab encyclopedia entry before spending the body.

What this page does not claim
